  • On April 27th, Lord Chamberlain Recreation Department presented Volunteer Awards to many volunteers. Our volunteers help our residents in many ways from assisting them at BINGO, reading them their mail, visiting or taking them outside in good weather. Many volunteers reached milestones and one volunteer from St. Marks has been coming to Lord Chamberlain for 34 years! Therapeutic Recreation Director, Margaret Boos, presented them with a gift and flowers. A big thank you to all of our volunteers – you are so important to the Therapeutic Recreation Department as well as to the residents!

    Shaun Savoie, BS, NHA, administrator of Aaron Manor, a sister Ryders facility in Chester, CT was recently honored by the ACHCA (American College of Health Care Administrators) with its coveted Leadership Award. This award is presented to administrators who exemplify leadership qualities that set their facilities apart as highest quality based on a number of quality measures.

    Congratulations Mr. Savoie! Thank you and all of our administrators for all you do to make your residents’ lives just that much better!

  • Lord Chamberlain Honors Sandy Hook Victims

  • The Lord Chamberlain Recreation Department held a memorial to the Sandy Hook Elementary School victims, whose names were written on luminarias surrounding the flag pole in front of Lord Chamberlain. There was a moment of silence as residents watched from their windows and staff joined in outside.

Mrs. Dee Miller, RN (at left) and Ms. Liz Burnhauser, RN (at right), both Lord Chamberlain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center nurses, exemplify the caliber of employees who lead the way to Ryders’ standards of excellence. Recently, Mrs. Miller and Ms. Burnhauser were honored with Nightingale Awards.

    The Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing celebrates outstanding nurses. Nominees “should have made a significant impact on patient care and/or the nursing profession; gone ‘beyond the call’ in a clearly illustrated way, demonstrated excellence or achieved a life-long legacy in a particular arena.”

  • Second Annual St. Vincent’s Golf Tournament Sponsored by Lord Chamberlain – September 10th

  • Dr. Tomaino Gives Presentation on “Awakening the Brain”-June 13, 2012

  • Barnum Festival Comes to Lord Chamberlain- June 13, 2012

  • The Barnum Road Show came to Lord Chamberlain on June 13th, in conjunction with the annual Barnum Festival celebrating PT Barnum. The residents enjoyed the clowns, the banjo players, and especially the children who sang and danced. The Honorary Ringmaster was Josephine Garafalo, a 2nd floor resident.

  • Letters of Love Club Party-June 6, 2012

  • The Letters of Love Club, composed of students from St. Joseph High School, has corresponded with 3rd floor residents since January. Photos show the end-of-the-year party where students and residents meet face-to-face. One resident, Mrs. Martine, was so thrilled to meet her Korean student pen pal, she plans to continue to write to her in Korea this summer.

  • Eli Whitney Students Enjoy a Crafts Project with Residents-May 25, 2012

  • Photos show 5th & 6th grade students from Eli Whitney School in Stratford engaged in a crafts project with residents, in celebration of Older Americans Month. The students also brought plants for the residents. Both students and residents enjoyed the interaction. The program will continue next year.
